August 16-18, 2013 - North Channel

We took our time leaving Killarney, saying goodbye to our buddies as we were ready to do some anchoring out in the North Channel.  We heard that the Baie Fine area was quite spectacular and were headed for the very end of Baie Fine to "The Pool."  Some locals in Killarney told us about Indian Head Rock in Covered Portage Cove; so, before we seperated, we all headed that direction.

In route to Covered Portage Cove.

Fishing boat heading back to Killarney with his catch.

Indian Head Rock in Covered Portage Cove.

Talk about a remote cabin...

Picked up another boat in the flotila.

In route to Baie Fine.

We're there...

Entering The Pool.

SeaGlide at anchor in The Pool.

We dinghyed over to a dock and hiked up to Topaz Lake.
We had heard that the hike was well worth it - and it was!

The water was even more topaz blue than we could imagine.

Crystal clear - no evidence of any fishes though.
It was quite a hike down to get our toes in the water, but we did it.

This fungus stairstepped all the way up the tree.

Night falls over The Pool, and
 we had complete silence.
The next morning we awoke to fog hanging over the water.

It quickly lifted as we motored on.

While in route, Jeff called in to the Cruisers Net Radio Show.  A show that comes out of Little Current just for cruisers.  You call in your location and it is broadcast over the radio so that other boaters will know where you are - makes it easy for friends to meet up.

The Little Current swing bridge did not stay open the posted 15 minutes,
but closed at 1107; so, we had to wait an hour for the next opening (on the hour).

We passed Little Current,

 the Benjamins, and Fox Island.

We headed for Hidden Harbor anchorage behind Hotham Island.

The Sagamok Indian Reserve was just behind us.
It was another quiet, secluded, remote anchorage.

Another beautiful sunset - magical...

The stars before dawn were spectacular this morning.

We were underway by 605a.  This would be our last day in the North Channel as we expect to make Drummond Island and US Customs by day's end.

Its sad saying goodbye to Canada.
We've been here 6 weeks and have had the experiences of a lifetime.
The water, the scenery, the people, the cities, the parks, and even the challenges
of over 100 locks have all been outstanding.  I look forward to coming back again some day
and spending the entire season exploring the Georgian Bay and North Channel.
