May 23, 2012 - New Smyrna Beach to Marineland

We had a leisurely take-off this morning and had our first bridge opening at the George Musson bridge outside New Smyrna.  In fact, we had many firsts today – first bridge opening, first manatee sighting, first use of first aid kit, first walk on the beach and first swabbing of the deck.

We had several manatee sightings today; however, a close-up encounter remains elusive. We actually counted 5 manatees in one pod!

Arrived at our destination, Marineland Marina and Jeff banged his head coming down the stairs… Doesn’t require any stitches according to the dock-hands…  Their recommendation:   a little antibiotic ointment and no swimming in the estuary…  we’re going with that…

Decided to take advantage of our location and take a walk on the beach – its right across the street and almost deserted…

Marineland Dolphin Adventure was closed, but offered proof that my mouth isn’t so big after all…

The beach here is incredibly gorgeous – here are a few shots:

After our walk we returned to the marina to do a little housecleaning.  Swabbing the decks gave us a more intimate feeling of closeness to SeaGlide.  She is an amazing vessel and hasn’t skipped a beat…

We settled in for a beautiful sunset as the dolphin fed off our stern.  It was quite an exciting day…
